Nayab Ikram (b.1992) is a photographer and visual artist from the Åland Islands. She is of Pakistani descent and currently based in Turku, Finland. She graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Culture and Arts degree, majoring in photography, from Novia University of Applied Sciences, Jakobstad, in Finland.
Ikram works with concepts related to cultural identity and the formation of identities. In her ongoing body of work she is focusing on the feeling of in – betweenship. Looking at the symbolic meaning of hair from a historical perspective, and how the meaning is influenced by society and personal experiences. She approaches the perspectives through photography, video and installation.
Ikram has had numerous solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Europe. She has exhibited her work through the Embassy of Pakistan in Brussels, Belgium (2017), Rotterdam Photo Festival, The Netherlands (2017) and Moderna Museet, Sweden (2016). In 2017 she was the winner of the Portfolio Review for Young Nordic Photographers at Landskrona Foto Festival.
